Academic Responses to a National Disaster (More or Less Which Were Phrased Accordingly).
Self Importance: "I've never been to New Orleans, but I've heard good things about it. I hope it doesn't get destroyed."
Self Righteousness: "It's the president's fault! Let's get him!"
Inter Squabbling: "Don't talk about the president!" "You shut up!" "Don't tell me to shut up!" "The right is persecuting me!" "The left is persecuting me!"
Not Even Relevant: "Anyone want to see some paintings I once made of New Orleans?"
Self Importance Part II: "Has anybody yet done a study on the race, class, and gender implications of this disaster?"
Weird Sense of Generosity: "Let's send books to people who have no place to keep them."
Self Importance Part III: "Our university (in Northwest Montana/In Upper New York/In California, etc) has agreed to admit students! Yeah! Now how they will get here, where they will live, why studying is the most important thing right now....none of that matters. We're giving a semester away for free!"
Inappropriate Moment to Mock: "I think I'll blog all this and make fun of these people...."
