Moodle
Looks like I got a successful install of Moodle going:
http://englishweb.clas.wayne.edu/~jrice/moodle/moodle/
The double moodle directories is my bad. Forget that untarring Moodle would mean another moodle directory. Oh well. Next time I'll know. Otherwise, very simple. Just know how to set up a database on your system and how to unpack the tar file and you're set. Already it looks a bit more dynamic than drupal. Looks like it will be another toy for the teaching practicum.
Now for the play and pedagogical invention. CBD - maybe you can talk about what you're doing/have done with Moodle?

Make me a class and/or an account to play with.

You need any help with sysadmin 31337 stuff?

Feel free to squat.
The site, like many of these sites I've been setting up, is really meant for experimentation and play, to figure out what to do with this stuff. I'm hoping the class will spend time experimenting and trying out.

I didn't do nearly as much with Moodle as I should have; the course in which I planned to use it had very few students, and half were barely able to turn their computers on, much less use courseware. Which was too bad, because some of the students were great. We used the chat quite a bit, even though the server I had it on nearly buckled under the strain. We also used the glossary to develop some collective definitions (stuff I'm moving to wiki this semester). Some of the graduate students in the course made test courses.

I might end up using Moodle again this semester, though right now my plan is to have students make weblogs with Blogger or Motime, to use the wiki I set up on wrecking.org. Maybe I'll just squat on your Moodle...

Kisses.

"Mr.?"
You must mean "Dr." my dear.

Seems like Mr. Rice feels like he doesn't need to listen to his peers. Mr. Rice, have you been taking notes? This *will* be on the test!
