Notes From the Cliche Underground
That time of year again when teachers on WPA complain that students don't read.
Yawn.
Wonder who buys all them books off Amazon then?
Who's reading the million or so blogs out there?
And you know which people really don't read? Writing teachers. Rhetoric and Composition books are not selling because the teachers don't buy them. Writing teachers don't read.
Ah irony.

Wow--thanks for the link to Jenny's post. I completely deleted everything from WPA-L today and so missed out. Now I'm going to have to go to the archives and see what kind of response that generated--way to go, Jenny!

Yeah, Amazon ain't making all that cake selling CDs. Just ask the RIAA :)
We've talked about taking bets on the stupidest WPA-L posts, with the winner being rewarded by booze. That's the wrong tack. It keeps us silent when we need to speak out, even though it seems like a task worthy of Sisyphus. We need to challenge the dimwit status quo that says failed classes are the fault of the students, that we're all too busy, that we need more studies, that we all suck because we haven't yet filled out the adjunct survey, etc.
To that end, I nominate this missive by J-Hell for the most smackdowninest post I've seen in a while.
