"800,000 residents"? The official numbers are considerably higher, but if you wrote this for publication at a later date, ala Mitch Albom, it's probably accurate. Oops, there goes another one.

I never thought a lot about graffiti until I started going around with dfUNK. Although he's attracted to work with artistic merit while I'm more into just general weirdness, it becomes obvious pretty quickly that graffiti has nothing to do with what people think it is. The perception of tagging as a gang phenomenon is largely false, at least in this city. Most of the places we frequent have no gang presence at all, although it's easy enough to imagine Droogies giving proper beatings to any citizens who wander out after curfew. In reality, the painting is done by suburban kids who moved downtown because they just have to paint. It's a drive to them, like eating and breeding.
